Project Yellow

The goal was to convert an original 964 Carrera 2 into an extreme light weight, road-ready clubsport racer, whilst incorporating the popular turbo-width. Being built-up from a bare shell with just the mandatory components reinstalled – the top priorities were not only the visual appearance but the professional, precise processing of such.

The body was completely modified to the WTL-look using light-weight carbon fibre bodywork; the dp RS front spoiler, the front hood with aluminum hood-support and the trunk lid SC RS are more than worthy of a mention as is the light-weight glazing made of both thin glass and plexiglass.

The entire project was perfected in Porsche colour 114 ‘Signal Yellow’ with a KW clubsport coilover suspension, chassis bushes by SuperPro on the front axle along with a complete Uniball bearing at the rear axle were indispensable. To complement the body and chassis mods the 3,800cm3 (231,8902 cubic inch) engine was completely revised, with such items as a Schrick 3,0mm camshafts as well as large 71mm throttle valves and an M&M sport exhaust system including two metal catalysts resulting in 329 hp (242kW) output. All this is put through the 5 speed G50 transmission installed with differential lock and 964 RS gear set and to cope with the extra power and lightweight 18-inch Oz Ultraleggera III rims with Michelin Cup II tyres (in 225/40-18(f) & 295/30-18(r)) guaranteeing a perfect link between vehicle and road. In addition to the above, VGS Motorsport in Cologne has implemented a complete dynamometer alignment.

With regard to the interior, the following highlights were opted: Recaro Pole-Position-seats in carbon, an OMP 4-point-harness-belt, a bolted version of a dp roll bar and a 350 mm sport type steering wheel by Momo. The light-weight dashboard and the knee rails are custom made in carbon fiber. A harmonious blend of leather, Alcantara and carbon adds to the ambiance. Other extras include a light-weight fresh air fan, an electrically heated windscreen, a motorsport battery in an aluminum housing as well as light-weight carpet made of velour.

All this is in accordance with the “formula” – 25 % weight + 30 % power = 100 % more driving pleasure, a vehicle with an unladen weight of 1.035 kg (2281 lb) (without fuel) has been created.
As you would expect, all of the aforementioned components are available individually.

The wheel housings, side sills as well as the front- and rear bumper were remodeled and improved at the so-called „dp11 Red Evolution“ body which is coated in Porsche guards red (80K). The windows of the lightweight doors consist of hardened plexiglass. Even the water drains were removed. All body parts are made of carbon or glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP).

The vehicle inhabits a H&R suspension coil over system and adjustable dp-stabilizers type RSR. The front axle head bearings as well as the turbo rear axle guides are Unibal-mounted and the front axle PU guide sockets are supplied by Superpro. The welded strut brace as well as the brake system of a 911-3.3-Turbo deserve special mention. The wheel-tire-combination with Fuchs rims in the dimensions 9 x 15 are assembled with Michelin semi slicks TB in 225/55-15 on the front axle and in 13 x 15 with 335/35-15 on the rear axle.

The 3.500 cm³ (213,5831 cubic inch) capacity engine is equipped with a mechanical fuel injection system with individual throttle valves, a dual ignition system as well as 911-RSR camshafts. The results are mighty 374 hp (275 kW). Edelweiß Motorsport coordinated the mechanical fuel injection pump on a dynamometer. The transmission type 915 with limited slip differential, steel synchroniser rings and oil cooling received an elevated shifter and shortened shift travels.

Even the interior endured an extensive upgrade. While enjoying the Lollipop race seats in the 935 style, the driver is looking through a 350-mm Momo steering wheel on a carbon dash board with carbon knee rails. The coated tin in the interior is furnished with a 964 RS style light-weight velor carpet. Ultimate protection for the passenger is provided by a welded, red coated safety cell as well as 4-point professional harness by Schroth.

Also the bonded windshield type 993, a light motorsport battery, a custom-made racing cable bundle and a carbon clubsport tank with 80 liters capacity are worthy special attention. The result of 940 kg (2072 lb) unladen weight (without fuel) is remarkable!
